Debit/Credit Card Terms & Conditions

Debit and credit card transfers are subject to the following conditions:

Calls to send money via Credit or Debit cards are accepted from within the UK only.

Calls must be made from a landline phone at your home or place of work.

Western Union DOES NOT accept calls from mobiles or coin boxes for security reasons.

Calls are accepted on the basis that the telephone number the customer is calling from is displayed for us.
(If you are calling from an ex-directory home phone or a business we would recommend you dial 1470 before our free phone number. This will allow us to see the telephone number you are calling from, which means your details can usually be taken on your first call, otherwise we may have to ask you to redial).

The cardholder is the only person who can make the telephone call to initiate a credit/debit card transfer.

The payee must hold acceptable/documentary evidence of identification to collect a transfer. There is no option to send a transaction on a test question.

Charges via debit card are exactly the same as the cash service. For customers using a credit card there is an additional charge of 1.5%. You should note that this is a Western Union charge and in some cases your bank may charge an additional 1.5% for using their card for this type of transaction.

New customers within their first six months will be allowed send up to £1000 per 90 days using a maximum of six cards.

Regular customers (those who have been sending via card for over 6 months) will be allowed to send a maximum of £5000 per 30 days using a maximum of six cards.

Customers using our Quick Pay service (bill paying system) will be allowed to send a maximum of £6000 per 30 days using a maximum of six cards.

New customers sending over £300 should allow 1 to 2 hours for their transaction to be completed. This is usually a one off and customers can expect future transactions to be completed during the course of the call to the customer services agent.

Customers need to be aware that all transactions are subject to approval by our validation department.

We send a receipt of the transfer to you, together with the Western Union standard terms and conditions after the transfer is completed. You therefore have to agree to proceed with the transaction without receiving the information beforehand.
